I have Toast Titanium 11 for Mac and use it to convert mp4 files for the iPad using the preset (iPad 720p (best)) converter but is there any difference in just importing the mp4 into iTunes and putting that straight onto the iPad?

I notice the file is .m4v when I export the .mp4 specifically for iPad?

Will both methods produce the same quality or what?

it shouldnt matter i just import my mp4/s into itunes than move them to my idevices

Just try using the mp4 as is first. In my experience, some mp4 won't play. If they don't then convert it to m4v.
