Exporting to iPod -- 640x480 H.264. How long?

Just wanted to see how long it takes for other people who are exporting a show to this highest quality iPod format. For a recent 40min show, it took just about an hour to export it. This is normal, at this setting? (I do realize if I want it done faster, use the lower quality). FWIW, 2.16ghz MBP w/1GB RAM. Thanks in advance.

h.264 is processor intensive for both coding and decoding, so it's normal to take a long time to encode it. an hour seems about right.

In addition if EyeTV is using the Quicktime/iTunes plug-in it's abysmally slow.

Ah ok, thanks for the input. Another data point: took 1h40m to encode a 1h24m recording. *shrug*

Is there another option besides the QT/iTunes plug-in....? Thanks.
