Exporting videos taken in iphone in Mac results in large file size why?

Hi, so I made some videos (4-5 minutes each) in my iphone.

Then I downloaded these videos to my Mac running Sierra.

I copied the videos files to the finder and found they are now about 250-300 MB in size! Why is this?

Even when I tried exporting the vides to lower res.. the file size was big. Why is this happening and how can I just get small sized video files in my finder on my mac? Thanks!
