Hi all,

I'm using iPhoto '09 (8.1.2) and have a library of about 25,000 photos with extensive keywords and geotags. I live by keywords. They are how I sort, find, etc and most of my smart albums rely on them. I've been looking into how feasible it would be to switch to Picasa (or something else) should I want to do so in the future.

I started by exporting a photo with keywords and location data and import it back into a new iPhoto library to see if it all worked the way I expected, and everything was there, all good. When I viewed the exported photo in Picasa, it recognized the geotag and comments, but no keywords. I thought that was odd. I added a keyword in Picasa and re-exported the photo, then imported this new file into a new iPhoto library. iPhoto saw the geotag and comments, and only the one keyword that I had added in Picasa. The original keywords from the original iPhoto Library had been overwritten by the single keyword in Picasa.

Is it normal behavior for Picasa to ignore/remove the keywords that iPhoto embeds in a photo? Or am I doing something wrong? Anyone else in the same boat with lots of keywords and feel a little locked into iPhoto? I'm happy with it now, but I just want to be sure there's a way out in the future.
