Hi all- This has been one of my greatest frustrations with osx in the couple years since i basically switched away from windows. I've always felt like there is something i must be missing, because it is just too convoluted for there not to be a common-sense workaround. The issue (and my request for help):
It is rather tedious in my experience to work in multiple windows (ie dragging one thing to another) in OSX if both are not visible from the beginning. You might have some success dragging a file over your dock and you can speed up certain opening functions by hitting space bar, but sometimes (in my perception) the windows you expect to be there aren't.
By the same token expose/mission control don't necessarily show all your visible windows. Maybe you minimized it or something. This can become quite annoying, being in mission control, not seeing it, clicking and holding over a dock icon and waiting for it to give you a context menu that shows all the windows. why can't expose just show me everything? especially when porn i closed a week ago is now likely to automatically open for my roommate's girlfriend if she clicks a tv show thanks to resume.. but i can't get at my current window? i got a icon to drag here.
i was able to tolerate a lot of this, but having recently switched to a trackpad on my imac i just don't have the real estate to be doing long combinations of click+drag any more. In windows it is fairly consistent that you hover over a taskbar icon and the window pops up. true, it is annoying that you get an error message for dropping directly on a taskbar program, but at the least everything you want will probably be down there.
does this bother other people? workarounds? i recently learned the spacebar trick and think i need to learn that more, but i've always thought it was just my laziness
okay, thanks.
