IIRC, OnyX (freeware maintenance utility) has the ability to activate/deactivate the Blob amongst it's various OS X interface tweaks.

My blob is activated but it runs away from me
Right now its were I can touch it, in the very top left corner where the menu bar covers it so I can't grab it and bring it down...WTF?

defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-olddesktop -bool false; killall Dock

I love that one! :D

But the blob is STILL hiding, while trying how to fix that, I found that minimize the desktop thing.

EDIT: for those people who's blob actually works...these are good replacements (you can replace the blob with a different picture....)

http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/details.php?id=1687

they are exactly like the blob just with designs.
