Exposé question

When I press F3 normally Exposé shows all of the windows that I have, but now when I press F3 the window or windows that I'm on (safari, iTunes...) disappear and are kind of zoomed in to the upper left corner and the dock turns grey. I can click the programs I have on the dock and it gives me options like quit and hide if the program is in use. Does anyone know if this is normal or how can I solve this, so that I can go back to seeing all of the active windows at once?
