I have an older MBP with an available Expresscard slot that I would like to utilize for USB 3.0 peripherals or eSATA. I have researched various products but the reviews on almost all of them are unfavorable when used with MAC OS. Does anyone here use one with success? Thanks.

Most expresscards that use the USB connection should work fine (expresscard ports have a PCI and a USB connection). USB cards are usually like card readers or network cards. Cards that give you a new interface connect via PCI and tend to require specific drivers. If all you want is USB 3 without a headache just buy the Sonnet card. You can make cheaper cards work with some driver hacking, but that's not the way most people want to go.
