Hi.

I have 2x Express extending my network from my Extreme base station. One is the newer model (supports 'n') which is upstairs & the other is in the kitchen running airtunes with a speaker.

However, if the express upstairs is turned off, the other stops working completely (orange blinking light).

Surely its not extending the wifi from the other Express, as I did not think this was possible?

Any help or suggestions would be great!

Question: Can AirPort Express be used for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?
Answer: Yes. AirPort Express can be a WDS main, remote, or relay station. It can function as a WDS main whether or not you are using it as a router to share your Internet connection (NAT).

But I don't think you would have set up WDS accidentally...

looks like I did (bridge mode).

Thanks for your reply though, now reconfiguring network using powerline:)
