I was looking into getting one of these for my MBP, but then realized that it requires a /54 slot, while the MBPs all have /34 slots. Am I out of luck, or is there some sort of adapter you can get?

There is no adapter you can get. It's like trying to fit a elephant into a dog carrier. NO WAY.

Just out of curiosity what is anyone using the express card slot for? I can't think of any reason to use it.

Lots of stuff...

eSata, additional USB, additional FW 400/800, wireless lan cards, wwan cards, memory card readers ... very common to find express cards that fit the MBP.

I doubt I would use that with a Macbook Pro. The normal line in/out can take mini-optical, it even works in windows.

If you DJ or want something good quality and move around, you probably want an external sound card with full sized outputs. Otherwise the built audio out is ok.

Got some on my mind, but apparently my requirements have stumped the people in the audio thread.
