Expresscard compatibility with 17" unibody

Okay, I've been reading all kinds of terrible, frightening things about apple breaking expresscard support with the EFI 1.6 update. I want to purchase a FireWire card (either 800 or 400) to use with my 17" unibody. Any suggestions on what is safe to buy?

Removing support for FW Express Cards? What would be the benefit in that? Anyway, I'm not sure what the update affects, but you can find Express Cards here and there.
