exrternal speakers stopped working

Not sure what happened.
I had this happen before and not sure how they started again.

they were working and then I think I did something on the keyboard perhaps and they stopped mid song.

I have looked at all the settings and everything seems fine but just can not get them to work at all.
nothing is muted at all.
Unplugged, replugged, rebooted everything.....

everything plays fine through the external ones

any ideas?

Check System Preferences > Sound > Output or OPTION/Alt click the sound/volume icon in the Menu Bar and tell us, what is listed and checked as Output Device.

I guess you mean the internal speakers?
