extenions won't hide

ok when i go to front row to view my movies,,,,,why does the extension .mp4 show, i want just the movie name....so if i go to the actual movie file ,,, right click ...den get info....and chose hide extension , it still doesn't hide it....and if i just rename it without the extension then it becomes file that doesn't know what program to open itself with>...any ideas??? i mean i just want it so in front row the extension doesn't show up...
