External 1080P monitor for games in Win7?

As we know the mobile GPU in our imac is not up to the job of producing the best image quality at native res with latest gen of games.

I'm in the process of getting a 27" TN monitor as a virtual Windows 7 display next to the imac, and I'm thinking using it in Bootcamp to play games at 1080P native res with the imac screen is disabled.

Does anybody think it is possible?
