So I have an external 1080p monitor connected via HDMI to my 2016 non TB MBP (using the apple multiport adapter). However, it only shows in 720p when its "default for display" and when I option click scaled resolutions it shows 720p there too (and 480p).

Ive reconnected it multiple times/turned mbp on and off but no avail. Any ideas on what I should do?

Ive tried switchresx but all the options including and above 1080p are a blurry mess.

Just for future reference; I fixed it. It didn't work at all with my 1080p monitor (Samsung SyncMaster s24b300) so I plugged it into my Samsung 55" 7 series smart TV and it worked flawlessly. So then I plugged it back into my monitor and now it works fine too... no idea why, but oh well :)
