The Great White North Eh
Hi all,
Today I bought a Welland external 5.25" enclosure. I just thought i'd let you all know how it is working out, in case anyone finds this particular model and wonders if it works. I bought the WELLAND ME-340U2F 5.25" Aluminum External Enclosure (IDE to USB2.0 + 1394a),

Product Info:
> For use with CD-ROM, CD-R, CR-RW, DVD-ROM,DVD +/- RW Drives
> With 29W Internal power supply
> AC input: 100-240V DC output: +5V +12V
> Safety: UL/CUL/TUV approved
Interface:
IDE to USB 2.0 and Firewire 1394A
Dimentions:
240 x 170 x 48 mm (L x W x H)
OK, so I put in my pioneer dvr-108.
So far this thing works wonderful. Aside from being a bit ugly, (I can get used to it though), it seems to work quite well. Firewire works beautifully(and fast), usb2 I have yet to try but I will soon enough (probably tomorrow, on a windows machine no less:eek: ).
I can read quite quickly, I will try burning a dvd tomorrow, let you know if the transfer rate is good write wise (my burner is a 16x).
the only issue that could bug someone is the fan, which is a wee bit louder than expected, tolerable but louder than my ibook.
anyway, from first impressions it appears to be a good buy. Will let you all know how it goes otherwise.
