I'm going to hook up an external USB 2.0 Hi-Val 52x24x52 drive to an 12" iBook G4 800, running Tiger. The combo drive is going bad, no more warranty, and I had this external just lying around.

I do not have the iBook in my hands right now, but I am trying to hook up the drive to my SR MBP, running Leopard. System Profiler recognizes the drive as "ATAPI CD-RW 52x24" with "Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support) and "CD-Write: -R, -RW)

Problem: OS reads and registers the drive when there is a disc with information inserted. When I insert a blank CDR, OS does not register there is a disc inserted.

Question: Is this a Leopard problem? Will I be able to burn CDs in Tiger? Any other advise you could give? Thanks!
