My internal battery won't charge - already replaced charging port (will sync - won't charge) and internal battery which had some charge at installation, but will not charge when plugged in (from wall, from computer, etc). Tech says likely due to bad after market replacement battery.

So, while I wait for a tested original from Apple battery, I need a solution.

Will an external battery product work with a non-working internal battery? Do the external batteries run through their charge first?

Just want to get through a few months with this phone before upgrading - wondered if this was a valid option.
