I am looking for an external blu-ray player to use for watching and ripping blu-ray so I can have them on my laptop when traveling. What is a good brand/model that is mac compatible and which software would I need?

Thanks

I have a Samsung "506" series drive that I like a lot, but I don't know if they still make them.
You should probably look for a Pioneer or LG model.
I'd get one with "M-DISC" support as well.

Only thing to be aware of is that some of these drives (some, not all) -may- require the use of -two- USB ports to deliver enough bus power to the drive to operate. They usually come with a "Y-adapter" for this purpose.

The Samsung drive above works fine with only -one- USB connection.

I purchased an LG external USB3.0 a couple of years ago. Works great, though I don't use it much. I use it to rip and burn Blu-ray. I haven't tried to watch a Blu-ray disk with it.
