Looking to get an external blu-ray player for my 2011 MBP. Few questions: Who do you all recommend (brand), will it work on my Mac and if I wanted to get a Blu-Ray burning software (like ripit, dvdremaster & handbrake) will the software work on a Mac and will I be able to copy a blu-ray and burn to a regular dvd or can I only burn to a blu-ray dvd if all I want is the movie?

Thanks team

Any brand should be fine. Plextor has a cheap one

Yes, it will work on your Mac, but Blu-ray movie playback is quite tricky to do in Mac OS X because no Blu-ray playback software exits for Mac OS X. You'll have to do various workarounds.
In Windows, however, everything should be fine. The Plextor player I linked to even comes with PowerDVD software for playback.

With regards to burning: No, you cannot copy a BD* onto a DVD. The capacity of a DVD is lower than that of a BD.

* Assuming you mean a standard Blu-ray movie.
