I have created an install of Sequoia on an external ssd to check some apps still work before upgrading my Sonoma disk.

I literally just installed onto a blank drive (but named it ‘external boot’ when erasing it, with the intention of using it for multiple MacOS versions)
How can I rename this volumes to Sequoia, for example?

The data volume is editable and the snapshot, but the OS volume is ghosted out.
When I ‘get info’ on the external drive when booted from it, or when normally booted into studio internal drive, it states I can only ‘read’ the external drive and do not have permission.

Disk utility doesn’t give me a rename option either for the OS volume.

I'm also thinking that while you're booted into recovery, that you go to the system/startup security pane, and choose "the lowest level" of security (i.e. none).

That's what I do myself.

So, the recovery screen had the same options for renaming of the system volume i.e. none.

I will probably just leave it as is, I don’t like messing with base-level security settings….. 🫣
Thanks anyhoo…..👍

This is bizarre, I thought it should be the other way around. If it’s not mounted, the Rename option is not available. If it’s mounted, Rename becomes available. Not only for Macintosh HD, but for other partitions on my external drive, with Disk Utility 22.7 (2401) in Sequoia 15.6 (24G84).
