I have a OWC Mercury Pro with built-in Blu-ray player connected via USB-A to CalDigit Elements Hub.

When I place a CD inside my player, my M3 MBA reads the CD, but it doesn't play it. It seems like it's frozen or has long lag time / latency. But if I use finder, I can eject it. So for some reason, the communication between the drive and computer isn't 100% there.

Is having so many inbetween connections causing a problem or something?

Only way to find out is with a proper cable to connect it directly. OWC sells an adapter cable but you might contact them to see if they're aware of an issue with hubs. Their product page says the Mercury Pro works with the M3 MBA with an adapter.

Do you mean the CD doesn't automatically play?

Have you tried opening an app on the Mac (such as Music.app or Quicktime player), and then accessing the CD that way?

Like Brian suggests, try connecting the player DIRECTLY to the Mac, to see if that makes a difference...

Apple seems to have lost interest in CDs, DVDs, and never had any interest in Bluray.

For "best handling" of this type of media, it's best to use 3rd-party apps...

Got any recommendations on 3rd-party apps?

I got Swinian, but it doesn't play CDs.

Simple player should suffice; sleeker looking interface would be nice.

"Vox's expensive."

Hmmm...
There is a "premium" version.
But the version I have still works, and it was free.
