Store my iTunes media on external, but the extensions remain on iMac. External crashed:( I have about 200gbs on it, but have it all on another system.
I am getting new external, my ?'s...
Say I only want half of that media library on new drive, but the extra extensions are still on the iMac. How to I make it simple and not have to manually delete all the extra/old extensions from iTunes?
Do I wipe the library completely and start fresh?
Or a better way perhaps to save time?
Also, purchased music on iTunes was on the crashed drive, can I retrieve them from iTunes store easy enough?
Thanks for any help in advance!

You could call Apple and explain that you've lost all your purchases because of a crashed drive, they have been known to allow you to re-download any music that you've bought from them.

Moving iTunes Library isn't as complicated as it's made out.

Backup all your music files first.

In iTunes Preferences, Advanced tab, change the location to the new drive/location and make sure the the Keep iTunes Media folder organised box is checked and then click Ok.

Now in iTunes File menu select Library, Organise Library . . .
Check the Consolidate Library box and the select Ok.

iTunes should now move everything it can find from the old location to the new location.
