External daisychian drive problem!

Hi
I have a gdrive and a La Cie d2 Quadra, both fwire 800. I have them daisy chained to my imac - both show in Finder and work just fine!
When I take the fwire lead from the back of the imac and plug it into my AirBook via an Apple Thunderbolt / fwire converter plug, neither show in Finder or disc utility!
HELP
