I have a 2012 iMac with an LG external reader/writer that has worked fairly well for a year or so, but I don't use it much. I recently moved everything and realized that:
1. the unit reads and writes CDs with no problem.
2. the unit plays DVDs with no problem.
3. The unit will not recognize a blank DVD of any kind; it just asks for a disc to be inserted.
I'm assuming this is a drive problem and I'm about to go get a DVD cleaning disc...but are there any other Mac related things I can try? And is it reasonable to assume that the laser that reads DVD's is different from the laser that writes them?
