I'm helping a friend upgrade from a seven-year-old G4 (MDD tower) to a low-end Mac Mini. Her G4 has a second internal disk (a two-year-old Seagate SATA 160 GB) for backups. She currently uses Carbon Copy Cloner to maintain a bootable backup.
We're looking for advice on backup options for the Mini. She could get an enclosure and move the Seagate into it, or she could buy an external disk and sell the Seagate. She'll probably use TimeMachine for backups on the Mini.
Cost is the important factor; size is secondary (in seven years, she has filled less than 50 GB of the original 60 GB disk in the G4). Other factors are low noise, not too hot, and appropriate power management for a disk that only needs to run during the backup process.
Thanks for your suggestions.
