Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (on iMac late2009)
running on internal 240GB SSD (SATAII 3G OWC in superdrive slot)
internal 1TB has a TimeMachine partition plus a data partition, and
an external FW800 3TB disk contains another TM partition and data partitions.
After the machine has been sitting idle, the pretty blue LED of the external drive starts flashing and the drive is desperately seeking "susan?" loudly for a time. The menu bar TM widget is not spinning and there is no dot in the spotlight widget.
It must be TM - It just did thrashed the internal HD for a while without the TM widget moving, and when I looked in TM the last backup is shown as right then.
I guess the only time the widget moves is if I click backup now?
