External Display advice 2015 Retina 13.3 MBP

I own a 27" TBD but really can't recommend it in 2015. Maybe, if it had USB 3.0. Without that, it's honestly a lousy investment. I honestly don't use the built in dock at all. I wouldn't find it inconvenient at all to just plug everything up to the laptop itself as it has adequate ports.

I use the same Mac at work and I connect two displays.
The first is an Asus 28"4K PB287Q
Second is a Dell 27 inch U2713HM
Both are running at 2560x1440. Very happy with the matte finish on both. And the 13 rMBP has no problem at all driving them both.
Also want to add since it's not obvious and you might not know - the TBD doesn't have a laminated panel like the newer iMacs to aid in glare reduction. So, even though they're both glossy screens, the TBD still shows more glare because there is a relatively large distance between the panel and the glass. This doesn't bother me because I'm never around any light sources that would cause any issues - but something to keep in mind.
4k monitors are cheap enough - I just don't think there's as great of a selection of standout monitors as there are in the 27" 1440p space. I can't notice a huge difference between my Retina's PPI and monitor unless I'm super close (far closer than I'd normally be). I think the Dell P2715Q is a good option though at under $600 (or the Asus). They're only ~$100 more than the U2715H. I'm not sure how OS X handles 4k scaling on external monitors though? If the scaling isn't right, 4K @ 27" is going to result in small everything.
