Hi there,

I've had a Dell P2422H display for around a year now, and while it's mostly fine, I'm looking into stepping up to a 2K usb-c monitor. I did some research and boiled it down to two options: Dell S2722DC or Dell U2722DE. I know these two monitors are quite different, but it's what I've come to, and have them locally available

The thing with me is, I'm going to be moving setups in a few years and won't be able to bring the monitor with me, so I'm probably going to sell it after about 2-3 years. If it weren't for that, I'd almost certainly go for the U2722DE. However, right now I don't know how I feel about shelling out $500 for the Ultrasharp and having to sell it just a few years later. The S27 seems like a completely reasonable option for half the money. In terms of use, I'm a CS student and use my display mostly for web browsing, research and coding.

Do you think the Ultrasharp is worth it?

I'd love to hear your advice.
Thanks in advance

S2722QC. It’s 4K.

Are you looking for a 2K only because of the difference in price?
I'd most like a 2K because of the scaling, it also is a bit cheaper, but primarily scaling. From what I've read, scaling a 4k to 1440p can have quite some impact on the gpu and ram usage. I also don't think I need a 4k panel. The S2722QC comes at $400 bringing me pretty close to the $500 Ultrasharp.

Scaling won’t have a significant performance impact with the M1.

A 4K display scaled to look like 2K will look much sharper than a native 2K display, even with the non-integer scaling.

almost certainly go for the U2722DE.

I personally wouldn’t go for the U2722DE or even the U2723QE because the new UltraSharp monitors have ComfortView Plus (always on, built-in low blue light screen that reduces blue light) which can’t be disabled.

The S2722QC has the option to enable or disable ComfortView.

If you really think I'd benefit so much from a 4k monitor, I might consider it, but I've been attracted by the fact that Macs can run 2k natively. I don't do any color critical work so I don't think Comfortview Plus would be a problem for me.
