Hey guys i'm in the market for a new 34in UW display. I will primarily be using it for my pc but it would be nice to be able to use it with my 13 rMBP too. I don't know the exact model year of the one i have (its not here with me) but i know it has 1 HDMI & 2 thurnderbolt ports. Thunderbolt ports on your 34 UW will generally cost you a few hundred more. Is there any reason i need them when using the monitor as an external display for my mac or will HDMI be just as good? The resolution i'm probably look at is 3440 x 1440 (WQHD).

thanks...

Thunderbolt is really for convenience. You can have display signal and USB over the same cable.
Connecting through HDMI or DisplayPort (which is preferable to HDMI) means an additional cable for USB.

LG is big on Thunderbolt on their 34" ultrawides. But if you don't need that, Dell's UltraSharp U3415W is probably one of the best choices out there.
