I have an external display connected to my 17-inch, Mid-2010 MBP.

The external display starts to have a "thin green line from top to bottom on the left side of the screen".

What's wrong with my display? What should I do now?

Thanks.

Sounds like the display is failing. Nothing you can do to fix the green line other than get a new display.

I suppose you could test the display on a different machine to isolate if the problem only occurs when your Mac is plugged in. But honestly I'd be surprised if you didn't have the same problem.

I purchased the display about 4 months ago. Should I send it back to Samsung to fix it?

Thanks.

Have you got another computer you can connect to rule out the possibility it is the computer that has an issue?

Assuming it isn't your computers graphics that are dying, then yes send it back for a fix or replacement.

I'm sure the mDP to mDP cable is well connected to the MBP and Samsung display. The problem still exists.

After disconnecting and connecting the mDP to mDP cable, the problem gets worse. Now I have "three lines from top to bottom" on my display...

Thanks.

Can you try an hdmi cable if the monitor has an hdmi port?

I only have a mDP to mDP cable.

It's LINDY CROMO mDP to mDP cable. I suppose it's working okay.

My external Samsung display has a lot of problems, could it be the display's motherboard that's causing all the problems?

Thanks.

The lines get more and more. And, the colors of the lines change.

I don't think Samsung is going to give me a new display, though the one I got has a lot of problems.

The first time I contacted the Samsung Customer Service, the customer service rept. wanted me to fix the problems myself. Then another customer service rept. told me that the problems are not serious.

After using the display, the problems get more and more. Now I think my only choice is to send the display back and get repaired.

The Samsung product quality and after-sales support are very lousy. It's going to be my first and last Samsung product.
