I have a new 16" MBP M1 PRO and I'm trying to use an external display in clamshell mode WITHOUT it being plugged in and it's not working. I'm on 12.1. I know the old laptops had this limitation but I thought it wasn't an issue with the M1. I hope there's a solution because I don't want to carry my charger around when I connect it to my TV or other screens. Thank You in advance.

As far as I'm aware, clamshell mode still requires that the machine be plugged into mains power. Everything I've read says the same thing. Check out this video:
