I tried a search but to no avail...

I have a TV that I use as an external display w/ my MBP and recently I unplugged the DVI cable for a bit then plugged it back in. When I plugged it back in, the top 2 resolutions showed up in system preferences but showed a distorted picture on the TV when I selected them and couldn't see anything except the messed up screen. I rebooted and tried a combination of things in the hope that it would go back to normal, but it didn't.

Is there some sort of driver refresh or something I could do to get those resolutions back or is my video card shot? I was using 2048 x 1536 and now the highest that works without distortion is 1600 x 1200. The two that stopped working was 2048 x 1536 & 1920 x 1440.

Any suggestions or info is much appreciated.
