I just bought a 24" external display to watch movies and stuff. It can do 1080p. I plan to use it with my mbp 13.3 which supports more than the maximum resolution available on that screen I think.

While I am waiting for the hdmi adapter to arrive, I thought of trying out VGA. However using either mirroring or not, I can't get any resolution to stick above the native resolution of my mbp (1280x800). The screen flickers badly and goes back to the above resolution. I am wondering if this is to be expected when using VGA? Certainly it's an old technology, but why would they even provide it if it wouldn't support the full resolution in the first place?

Any suggestions/comments? I will post again once I have tried out the HDMA.

I have a Dell 2407WFP that is a 1920x1280 display and I can do that resolution with VGA. I haven't tried it with a MDP to VGA adapter though, so maybe it's something on the MBP. Once the HDMI adapter arrives though, I think you'll be in business.
