just got the new dell SE198WFPF 19 inch Silver monitor for use with my macbook. what is the best resolution to use? so far nothing i've tried has worked too well. any advice for me? thanks

Use the native resolution of the monitor, which seems to be 1400x900.

edit: is it me, or is this a bizarre resolution?

i'm using the 1400x900 but the text is very small. when i change the resolution, text seems blury.

thanks

Everything will seem blurry at a resolution lower than native on an LCD display, because everything is stretched over the same amount of physical pixel elements in the panel--what takes up a pixel at 1400x900 takes up 1.x pixels at a lower res.

Basically, things start taking up additional fractions of pixels and the result is a blur.

Are you running in mirrored mode? If so it could be because the Macbook is automatically reducing the resolution. Try closing the Macbook and then waking it up by pressing play on the Apple remote and see if it helps any.

yep, mirrored mode, the macbook lid is open but screen is off.

also, in order for the external monitor to work correctly, imo, the macbook screen must be turned off. if not, my external only shows the macbook resolution, not the 1440x900. why is this?

thanks

kind of annoying always opening and closing the lid.
