I am thinking of getting a 27" or 30" monitor for a standing desk setup and would like to continue using my MacBook Pro for its keyboard/trackpad with the external monitor as the only screen.
Having the GPU powering both the external and MBP display will probably spin up the fan so I want to reduce the load on the GPU somehow, ideally by turning off the MBP screen.
One idea I have is to reduce the resolution on the MacBook Pro display to the lowest it will go.
I have tried using a couple of external keyboards with an external trackpad but it turned out to be too clunky for work. I usually click through a lot of websites while editing text while searching glossaries while referencing other documents and for this the MBP keyboard/trackpad setup really helps.
I use Snow Leopard on a Late 2011 15" MBP.
Any ideas welcome.
