Hi,

Just had a quick question.

Can I output to a external display when I keep my macbook pro closed? I have to actually keep it on to display it externally to my Dell monitor. I set it to mirror my Macbook pro. Is that have something to do with it?

Thanks for answering. :apple:

Try deselecting the mirror setting

Make the Dell the primary monitor
select displays/arrangement
then slide the white menu-bar graphic to the image representing the Dell

I know that will work - and you can then close the MBP.

Not to worry - when you disconnect the Dell Monitor everything will collect onto the MBP

Yes, you can run the MBP in "closed-lid" mode. You need a keyboard and mouse attached.

Have the display plugged in (doesn't matter if it's mirrored or extended desktop mode) and then close the lid to sleep the computer.

Use the keyboard/mouse to wake the machine and your machine will dedicate all it's VRAM to the external screen.

If you're using a bluetooth keyboad/mouse, make sure you set it to allow bluetooth devices to wake the computer - it's in System Preferences.
