External Drive and 10.3.3

Last week I decided to clean up my desk top and threw a bunch of files into the recycle bin. It seems I've discarded my icon to an external drive with lots of stuff on it.

I've tried several ways to get the disk to reappear on my desktop - but to no avail.

I thought that external drives would just pop up if I repowered them. What step am I mising?

Well no answers to my problem. Thanks to those who read it.

I get the following warning in Consol:

2007-12-21 17:14:55.867 readconfig[1702] BSDPClientCreateWithInterface(en0) failed, Interface not configured
Can't get device for hd:,\\:tbxi: 3

Any other bright ideas before I just go out a buy new external drive and start over?
