I use time capsule for routine backups on my MacBook.

I also include an external drive as part of that backup process.

Now I’m trying to restore the files on that external drive from time machine, but I have no clue how to find it.

What would it look like? Are the files nested inside MacBook backup folders? Where would it be?

Hi,

use the Time Machine interface ("Enter Time Machine").

Select the file you want to restore, right-click on it, "Restore to..." and choose the external drive as destination.

You could also connect the external drive, boot using there option key, select the external, cost the time machine restore option, select the external drive as the source.
