External drive Disk Utility repair taking forever

How can I tell if its lagging or it is just taking a long time? No CPU in Activity Monitor. Will it hurt to quit at the Checking Mulit=Linked directories stage? its approx 2T out of 4T, my passport by WD

It might helpful if you mention how long is a long time. It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing the duration because "a long time" is subjective, as is "forever".
