External drive doesn't appear in Finder

No one has replied to you yet? Bummer...I'm having the same problem with a flash drive.

Is this a brand new hard drive? Or have you used it before? When you turn it on does it make clicking noises or does it spin up and then stop all of a sudden? Open up your Disk Utility App which is located in applications/utilities and then turn your hard drive on. Does the utilities app show anything?
