External Drive For iMac

Hi I have a iMac G5 and for some reason my disc drive broke. I've tried a bunch of things to fix it but have decided to just buy a new one that is external. I want it to be able to read and write CD's and DVD's and be cheap as possible without skipping on too much quality. If possible please direct me to some models on a major website like Best Buy, Costco, Staples, etc. My parents are scared to buy of websites that look "sketchy" to them. Also do I need any software or will my iLife handle everything? Thanks.
