external drive help

i have a 160gb external hard drive. i tried to format it using disk utility, but when i did that, it started formatting, but then froze. now it is in a half formatted state and whenever i plug it in it says mac cannot read this drive. when i try to format it as anything or partition it, i get an input/output error. windows won't read it, linux wont read it. i really need to fix this drive!

Is it a new drive? Take it back to the supplier, if possible.

its a couple of years old.

Well mate, check the warranty. I think it might be time for a replacement.
