I am researching buying an external hard drive to plug into my Time Capsule for media storage. Obviously I would like this to be a fast as possible, I have HD content, and tons of music and videos.
I am wondering if there is any difference between plugging a USB 2.0 harddrive into the USB port on the time capsule, or plugging a gigabit network drive into the rj45 port on the time capsule? Do they both preform the same way, act the same way?
Also, which has better performance? According to wikipedia, USB 2.0 can do 480 Mbit/s, but of course the gigabit network drive can do 1000Mbit/s. Leading me to believe the gigabit network drive would preform better, but I suspect this may be moot, since all transfers from my computers to the time capsule still have to occur wirelessly (running wirelessN 5ghz (270Mbit/s)).
Thanks for the help and insight.
