Hi, Every time I try ejecting my external hard drive I get the following message.

"the disk wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it. You can try to eject the disk again or click force eject to eject it immediately."

This happens every time I try ejecting, so I always have to force eject. Any idea why this is happening? I have a Macbook pro with the latest software installed. Thanks.

When nothing else works...

Power off the computer.

Remove the external drive.

Reboot the computer.

lsof should be of help in figuring out what files on your external disk are in use, and by what app.

Go to Terminal and type this:

Code:
$ lsof /Volumes/Your\ External\ Disk\ Name\ Here

and it will list all currently open files on that volume, along with the name of whatever process has each file open.

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not that computer savvy. Can you please explain it in simpler terms Thanks.

Are you using any Adobe apps like Photoshop? Often they will use external storage as secondary caching disks. If any Adobe apps are open make sure you quit them before you attempt to eject any attached storage.
