External drive with different installers and operating systems installed - possible?

Hi All,

Can I take a 125GB drive partition it with say 5 different partitions and install different installers on each? And then from the boot menu chose which install I'd like - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion etc?

Also, a related question, can I partition a larger 1TB drive and install different operating systems on each partition? So I could have one partition with Mountain Lion installed and another with Mavericks (for legacy purposes) and chose which operating system to launch while booting up?
