Is it possible for me to have all my music on my external hard drive and be able to play it all through iTunes? For example all the songs in iTunes BUT the original locations are on my external drive?

Sorry if this is not very clear...

yes, you can move your entire library into an external drive if you would like.
you would need to be plugged in whenever you wanted to listen to anything though.

I've used this method for ages now. Works a treat but be aware that, when the external spins down (as they tend to do when not in use), it will take a while (5-10 seconds) to spin back up when you want to listen to your music. Well, that's how it is on my 1TB Seagate drive (7200 rps, 32MB cache ->FW800).

Unless there is a way to keep the external constantly spinning.....

Thank you both for your answers. Thats all i wanted to know. Thanks again.
