Hi All,
This forum has helped me decide that a 27" iMac with i5 processor and iMovie is the go for my home video creation needs. That's a good start. Unclear about RAM and vid card, but it seems getting the 8gb of RAM is a good idea and I'm not so clear on whether paying to upgrade the vid card to 2gb is worthwhile.
More pressing is the need to sort out storage. Having external storage, lots of capacity and good speed seems to be the go.
I found this: http://www.promise.com/storage/raid_series.aspx?region=en-global&m=15&rsn1=40&rsn3=47
Not sure if it is over speccing, but it seems smart.
I'd be using external storage to import my video files from the camera, work on projects (I say that as if I have some idea what that involves, but as yet I actually have no idea) and then make DVDs.
I'll probably keep my raw footage stored on the ext HD, but my final products will probably be kept on DVDs.
I will also store iTunes music and photo files on the ext HD.
What setup do you recommend? I am just a typical home user wanting to make videos of my kids / holidays / sport etc. Given things are in HD, I gather data storage will add up to quite a bit over the next 5 years or so (I will keep the computer until it dies) and HD video editing probably means I'll appreciate higher speed connections.
Thanks for your ideas.
