I am looking for a new External DVD Burner. Blue Ray is not needed. Firewire DVD devices cost significantly more. A 5.25 inch (desktop) model is fine. The portable ones seem flimsy and only come in USB.

Is there any speed advantage in DVD writing with a Firewire burner vs USB ?
Or is the writing speed the limiting factor, far below the USB throughput rate ?

To me, the added speed of Firewire wouldn't make much of a difference because I never burn at maximum speed anyway. For music discs and other things like that it's fine, but I occasionally run into file errors if I put my external to max write speed.
