Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows if the Plextor is a good brand. I am looking for an external firewire DVD burner for an iBook G4. Most of the ones I've found are USB, which I imagine, would be mind-numbingly slow. The only one I have found using firewire is the Plextor.

Any opinions?

Thanks!

Plextor is a good brand. LaCie also makes Firewire ones and is a good brand.
I think Sony or Panasonic also makes firewire (or dual usb/firewire) DVD burners.

Thanks! Unfortunately, in my area, there don't seem to be any other available. Everything at CompUSA and Fry's, under LaCie and Iomega, are USB. Fry's doesn't even carry LaCie.

The Sony is much more expensive. Do you think there is a huge difference in quality between the Plextor and the Sony?

Well, what are the features?
Burn speeds? In my opinion, burn speeds over 32x for CDs is asking to make coasters and probably about 8x for DVDs... so paying for speed above that is not worthwhile.
Can both do DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW or can the plextor only do one of those?
Warranty?
